514 Homes Approved Near Corpus 🏗

Rendering of the future development | Alinea Land Corporation
Burlington has approved a draft plan for 514 new homes on a vacant property behind Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School at Upper Middle Road, bringing a long-discussed development closer to reality.
The first phase of Bronte Creek Meadows, stretching from Quinte Street to Sutton Drive, will include 181 single-family homes, 173 townhouses, and 160 medium-density units. The developer says the plan incorporates community input on park space, natural heritage protection, and housing density.
If approvals move forward, earthworks and site servicing could start in 2027, with home construction following shortly after. The broader vision for the site includes residential, retail, recreation, and open space.
Province Weighs Millcroft Golf Fate ⛳️
The province has opened a 30-day public comment window on Burlington's request to preserve the remaining open space at Millcroft Golf Club.
The city's request for a Minister's Zoning Order was posted to the Environmental Registry on June 22 and is open for public feedback until July 22. A competing MZO request from the golf club's owner, asking the province to allow 138 new homes on parts of the course not yet approved for development, was posted earlier this month with a July 5 comment deadline.
Burlington council this week approved submitting a staff report opposing the developer's request.
Windrow Clearing Gets Cheaper 🚧
Burlington has officially cut the cost of its windrow snow clearing program in half for seniors, disabled residents, and low-income households.
The service, which clears snow plowed back across driveways after a storm, normally costs $150 per year. Eligible residents will now pay just $75 annually. That includes anyone over 65, anyone with a disability, or anyone enrolled in the city's Recreation Fee Assistance or Transit Low Income Pass programs.
The changes follow a 2026 budget decision to improve the clearing service's response time from 12 hours down to eight. Mayor Marianne Meed Ward says the reduced fee helps ensure seniors and low-income households who depend on the service aren't priced out as the city invests more into the program.

Burlington Public Library's free Summer Reading Club is now open to kids and teens up to age 17, with weekly prizes and a grand draw running through the end of August.
Families can register online or at any branch. Participants set a weekly reading goal, check in starting June 29, and earn two beads for their reward keychain plus an entry into the grand prize draw at each visit.

Halton Honours Top Athletes 🏆

Halton high school athletes were celebrated last week at Jake's Grill and Oyster House, marking the return of an event honouring student athletes of the year from eight local schools.
The afternoon gathering brought together standout performers from schools including Corpus Christi, Nelson, Dr. Frank J. Hayden, M. M. Robinson, Aldershot, Notre Dame, and Burlington Central. Of the 12 athletes, 11 are headed to university this fall, with one pursuing police foundations at Fanshawe.
The event was organized by Ron MacVinnie, a longtime supporter and former Burlington Sportsman of the Year, working with Halton athletic convenor Darrin Curtis to revive a tradition started by former convenor Peter Moore. Each athlete received a bursary from Fox 40 and certificates from the City and Province.
