Our New Website Is Live! 🌐

We have some exciting news to share with you. After countless weeks of designing, building, tweaking, and overthinking button placements, the new Burlington Digest website is finally live!

Events Calendar
What we are most excited about is our brand-new events calendar, which we’re confident is the most complete in Burlington. You will find every notable event happening in town, with simple filters by category and date range.

Submit an Event
We’ve added a new submit an event page, making it much easier to send us events for consideration in the calendar and newsletter.

Featured Events
The events calendar also has a featured section at the very top, giving organizers the option to purchase paid placement for extra visibility in front of Burlington’s biggest local audience. You can find this option on the ‘Submit an Event’ page.

Partners Page
Local business owners can now visit our new partners page to learn more about partnering with us to gain exposure for your business.

P.S. You may have noticed the newsletter got a bit of a new look as well 👀

Juicy Birds Replaces Mighty Bird 🍽

Instagram post

A former Burlington chicken shop is turning into…… Yes you guessed it, another chicken shop. The old Mighty Bird at 2465 Appleby Line will soon become a Juicy Birds location, part of a Nashville hot chicken chain that's been spreading across southern Ontario.

Despite the very similar name, the new chain hopes to stick around longer than the previous chicken shop could. Their social media has been gaining a lot of traction, with multiple posts showing off their menu items getting hundreds of thousands of likes. Juicy Birds currently has 11 locations in the province, with more planned for Brampton and Aurora.

The company's website doesn't mention the Burlington spot yet, and there's no opening date announced.

New Festival Shows Promise 🎸

Burlington’s first Lakeshore Music & Arts Festival made its downtown waterfront debut this weekend, replacing the iconic Sound of Music. Based on recent reddit discussion, Walk off the Earth was the clear highlight, with many praising the hometown energy and the Teen Tour Band appearance.

The broader reaction was mostly hopeful, with residents pointing to a solid food truck lineup, a scenic waterfront setup, family-friendly areas, and support for Canadian and local artists as real strengths. Some growing pains came up too, including capacity limits, lines, blocked views near the main stage, and sound issues at the smaller stage.

Still, the overall feeling was that Lakeshore has a good foundation to build on, especially if organizers take the first-year feedback and fine-tune things for next summer.

Pride Blooms at RBG 🎉

The Royal Botanical Gardens' Rock Garden hosted its second annual Summer Pride Party on Saturday, bringing together community members for an evening of drag performances, music, and celebration.

Hosted by drag queen Karma Kameleon, the event featured performances from Calypso Cosmic and Chimaera, alongside interactive experiences from local organizations including Fruit Salad and Pride Halton. Guests enjoyed lawn games, an ice cream truck, temporary tattoos, and a live quilting project by artist Connor Andersen, where attendees selected fabric squares reflecting their mood to create a collective art piece.

The Summer Pride Party is part of RBG's After Dark series, a collection of adults-only evening events running this summer alongside the ANCHORBALL art exhibition.

900 Swimmers Hit Nelson Pool 🏊

The Burlington Aquatic Devilrays hosted their annual Long Course Outdoor Invitational at Nelson Pool this weekend, drawing close to 900 swimmers from across the province for the start of the summer competitive season.

The three-day meet featured eight racing events, with swimmers as young as eight competing in freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke races. Between heats, kids lounged poolside with friends, snacking on crackers and fruit while parents watched from the stands or read books in the sun.

The atmosphere stayed relaxed and friendly throughout, as swimmers gathered at the marshalling table to learn their lane assignments before each race.
