Bring a Neighbourhood Rink to Your Burlington Park This Winter! ⛸️

Burlington Downtown

Imagine lacing up your skates just steps from home! Burlington residents can help make that happen by applying to bring a community skating rink to a local city park through the Cogeco Neighbourhood Rink Program.

Applications are now open for the 2027 winter season, with a deadline of December 1st, 2026. The City provides rink boards, a liner, hoses, signage, and a picnic table, as well as volunteer training and liability insurance when program requirements are met. Residents take on the work of building, flooding, and checking the ice throughout the season.

To get started, neighbourhoods need a committee of at least six adults, including a lead volunteer, who are ready to help keep the rink running.

Ready to bring some winter magic to your neighbourhood?

Good News for Burlington Drivers: Skyway Rehabilitation Project Is Complete! 🚗

If your trips toward Hamilton or Niagara have been slowed by construction, there’s some welcome news: rehabilitation work on the Burlington Bay Skyway is now complete.

The project began in May 2024 and focused on the 2.2-kilometre Niagara-bound bridge along the QEW. Over the course of the work, crews repaired the bridge deck, replaced concrete barriers, improved drainage, waterproofed the roadway, and laid new asphalt. The project also included lighting upgrades in both directions of the highway, along with improvements to signs and nearby highway connections. For local commuters and people relying on the QEW, the completion marks the end of major construction-related disruption.

Keep in mind that other highway work or future maintenance could still cause delays.

Burlington Footage Makes Its Big-Screen Debut in The Stunt Driver 🎬

Hill’s Video Production

Long-time Burlingtonians may remember Hills, and if you grew up here in the early 1970s, there’s a good chance your family bought a TV there! Now, the familiar local name has a connection to a movie that has hit the big screen.

Hills is celebrating the debut of footage filmed by owner Fred Hill, which appears in The Stunt Driver, a feature film inspired by Canadian daredevil Ken Carter’s outrageous attempt to launch a rocket-powered car across the St. Lawrence River in the 1970s. Starring Jay Baruchel, Ed Helms, and Ben Foster, the film brings Carter’s larger-than-life ambition and wild journey to the screen, blending comedy and drama with a chapter of Canadian history.

For Burlington residents who remember Hills, seeing Fred Hill’s footage featured in the movie adds a special hometown connection. It’s a reminder that local history can turn up in unexpected places, even at the movies!

Paws, Costumes, and Treats! 🐕

Halloween fun went to the dogs in downtown Burlington earlier this month, as four-legged trick-or-treaters joined the city’s first dog-focused Halloween walk!

On Saturday, October 17th, pups dressed up in festive costumes and visited local businesses, collecting treats along the way. Stops included Joe Dogs, Rocca Sisters Real Estate, Craig’s Cookies, and Simpli Gifted, along with other participating businesses.

From pumpkin-inspired outfits to other creative costumes, the event gave local dogs and their humans a chance to celebrate the season while exploring downtown and all the wonderful shops it has to offer.

With adorable pups and plenty of treats, this first-time event brought a fresh twist to Halloween in Burlington. And who says trick-or-treating is just for kids?
