Central Park Sports Fields Set to Reopen After Thanksgiving ⚾

Central Park
Good news for Burlington’s sports community: the baseball diamonds and cricket field at Central Park are expected to reopen after Thanksgiving following months of work to improve safety and playability.
The fields have been closed since the spring while the City relocated the cricket pitch and reconfigured the surrounding area. Once the cricket field reopens, casual use of the baseball diamonds will also be allowed when permitted cricket play is not taking place.
The City is also planning more cricket infrastructure. An update on a planned dedicated cricket field at Sherwood Forest Park is expected to go before the new city council in December, with construction anticipated next year and completion expected in 2028.
For Burlington’s sports community, the changes mean more opportunities to get outside and play, both now at Central Park and in the years ahead!
Burlington Waterfront Festival’s Future Under Review 🌊
What should Burlington’s waterfront festivals look like in the future? That’s now up for discussion after City Council ordered a review of the Burlington Waterfront Festival.
The City Council has not decided whether the festival will return in 2027. Instead, city staff will review the July 2026 event, including its programming, food vendors, and impact on downtown businesses, before bringing recommendations back to council by the end of the year.
Council will ultimately consider whether the festival should return to Spencer Smith Park in its current format, whether limits should be placed on food trucks at events in or near downtown, and if significant changes to an approved event should trigger additional city review.
For Burlington residents, the decision could shape future summer festivals along the waterfront, including the balance between live entertainment, food vendors, and support for nearby downtown businesses.
Pickleball Fundraiser Brings Burlington Firefighters and Residents Together 🎾
Burlington residents can hit the courts this month while helping raise money for breast cancer research.
The Burlington Professional Firefighters Association and BURLINGTON PiCKLEBALL are teaming up for a charity pickleball tournament on Thursday, Oct. 22nd, at 9:30 am. The round-robin doubles event will take place at 3185 Harvester Rd.
Registration is $75, but that fee is waived for participants who raise at least $200 in donations.
Whether you’re a regular pickleball player or looking for a fun way to support a good cause, local residents are welcome to join. To register, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, skill level, and your partner’s name (if applicable). It’s a chance for Burlington’s pickleball and firefighter communities to come together, get active, and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

Burlington Comes Together for Record-Breaking Run for the Cure 💗
Burlington showed its community spirit in a big way this weekend, with record numbers turning out for the annual CIBC Run for the Cure.
Runners and walkers gathered at the Central Park bandshell Sunday morning before making their way along New Street, coming together to support breast cancer research and awareness.
The event has become a familiar part of Burlington’s fall calendar, but this year’s turnout made it especially memorable. Participants also had the opportunity to share personal stories and remember loved ones whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. Across Canada, more than 65,000 participants and volunteers took part in this year’s Run for the Cure, raising $18 million for research, support programs, and advocacy.
For Burlington, Sunday’s turnout was another reminder of what happens when neighbours come together for a cause that touches so many families.
Pet Spotlight: Meet Missy 🐱

Burlington Humane Society
This beautiful 9-year-old long-haired girl is available for adoption at the Burlington Humane Society. She has luxurious fur and a sweet, gentle personality. She has already been through a lot, including raising her kittens. Now that her babies have found their forever homes, it’s finally Missy’s turn.
Missy is a little shy and is still learning to trust people, so she’ll need a patient family willing to give her time, love, and a quiet space to feel comfortable. As she slowly comes out of her shell, her gentle personality is beginning to shine through.
She would do best in a calm, peaceful home where she can take things at her own pace and build her confidence.
If you have room for a special companion, Missy’s is looking for her forever family.
