Over 150 vendors are setting up in the middle of Appleby Line this Sunday, and for one afternoon you can walk straight down it. The road closes between New Street and Fairview for the annual street festival.

Live music plays through the afternoon, there's a kids zone, and food is coming from the restaurants on that block plus various food trucks and vendors. It all runs 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 20.

With the 2026 municipal election approaching next month, the city of Burlington is urging residents to get to know their candidates and cast their vote.

Keep an eye on your mailboxes, as vote cards will be sent your way in early October, or vote online via internet voting from Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. to Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. If you prefer face-to-face, in-person voting is available with advanced polling taking place Oct. 17 and 20 and voting day on Oct. 26 (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

There are several opportunities in September and October to meet candidates for mayor and council at events hosted by local community organizations. The next event is the Burlington Mayoral Candidates Debate and Ward Candidate Forum - Sept. 17, 6:30 - 9 p.m. - St. Christopher’s Church.

Documents headed to Burlington’s committee on Sept. 14 will discuss a proposed plan for six towers ranging from 30 to 48 storeys next to the Aldershot GO Station. The six buildings will include about 2,713 new residential units, 89 percent single- or two-bedroom units, and 11 percent three-bedroom units.

Pro: Approximately 2,100 sq. m of commercial space allows for 80 new jobs in retail and office space.

Con: The development exceeds the planned people for the subject site and would likely require investments in supporting infrastructure.

Have something to say? The six towers will be discussed at the committee meeting this week, and again during a Regular Meeting of Council on Sept. 29.

Community Living Burlington and the Burlington Food Bank unveiled a new “Mini Market” designed to give over 400 residents access to fresh and packaged food.

Community Living Burlington, an organization that offers support to people living with developmental disabilities, partnered with the Burlington Food Bank to expand their reach. What used to be a small pantry is now large shelves and a refrigerator to keep produce fresh and provide healthier options for more residents.

This marks the first time that fresh food will be available at CLB for those who need it, and they have a three-year plan in action to grow bigger.
