Burlington’s Festival of Lights Returns November 27th — And Volunteers Are Needed! 🎄

Spencer Smith Park

Burlington’s waterfront will sparkle again as The Burlington Festival of Lights returns to Spencer Smith Park on Friday, November 27th, kicking off the holiday season with its beloved annual tree-lighting celebration.

Now celebrating its 31st year, the festival transforms the waterfront into a festive display of illuminated scenes and holiday magic, running through January 3rd, 2027. Opening night will feature live music from the Burlington Teen Tour Band, a visit from Santa, and a countdown to light up the park.

Behind the glowing displays is a team of dedicated volunteers from the Burlington Lions Club, which took over organizing the festival in 2025. Now, the club is inviting more residents to get involved, with opportunities ranging from installing lights and helping with event setup to welcoming guests and supporting fundraising.

Meet the Winners of the 2026 Election 🗳️

Burlington voters have chosen who will lead the city for the next four years, with results bringing a mix of familiar faces and fresh perspectives to City Hall.

Mayor Marianne Meed Ward won a third consecutive term. Meanwhile, four new councillors will join the six-member council, bringing new voices to decisions that affect neighbourhoods across the city.

Here’s who won each ward:

  • Ward 1: Kelvin Galbraith (re-elected)

  • Ward 2: Sean Campbell

  • Ward 3: Mark Carr

  • Ward 4: Olivia Duke

  • Ward 5: Alex Don

  • Ward 6: Angelo Bentivegna (re-elected)

Official results show that 56,863 residents cast ballots, representing 35.5% of eligible voters.

The new council’s term runs from November 15th, 2026, to November 14th, 2030, with affordability, housing, infrastructure, and city services among the issues residents care about. The next chapter of local decision-making is about to begin, and residents are encouraged to stay involved.
