Burlington Announces Remembrance Day Services for November 11th 🇨🇦

Burlington residents are invited to come together on November 11th to honour the courage, service, and sacrifice of Canada’s veterans and those who continue to serve. The City has announced a series of Remembrance Day observances taking place downtown throughout the morning.

The day begins at 9:00 am with a 30-minute Burl-Oak Naval Veterans service at the Naval Ships Memorial Monument in Spencer Smith Park. At 10:30 am, a procession featuring armoured personnel carriers will travel from Central School along Brant, Elgin, Locust, and Ontario streets, ending at the Cenotaph in Veteran Square. A flyover by Second World War-era Harvard aircraft is also planned. The main Royal Canadian Legion Branch 60 service begins at 11:00 am at Veteran Square beside City Hall. The ceremony will include the Last Post, a moment of silence, music by the Burlington Teen Tour Band, and wreath laying.

Residents are encouraged to attend and take time to remember those who made sacrifices for the freedoms we enjoy today.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, November 16th, at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. Doors open at 5:30 pm, with the formal proceedings beginning at 6:30 pm.

Meed Ward will be sworn in for her third consecutive term as mayor. The incoming councillors are Kelvin Galbraith, Sean Campbell, Mark Carr, Olivia Duke, Alex Don and Angelo Bentivegna. Residents who cannot attend in person can also watch the ceremony through a City of Burlington livestream.

The inauguration is a great way to welcome the new council team as they prepare to represent Burlington and tackle the priorities facing residents over the next four years.
