Coop Wicked Chicken and Bar serves its last customers on Brant Street on August 22. Staff told BurlingtonToday that the lease is ending, and a Korean restaurant is expected to take over the space shortly after.

The next few weeks are being treated as a send-off, and there's a party planned for the final day. Come hungry.

That leaves the chain with no locations left in the area. The Waterdown and King Street West locations both closed in the last few months, leaving one Coop still open, in Kelowna, B.C.

Lakeshore Road is down to one lane at Martha Street on weekdays through August 12. The eastbound lane is closed between Pearl Street and Old Lakeshore Road for underground work.

Traffic runs both directions through the single open lane, with flaggers and police on site directing it. Driveways and businesses along the strip stay open. Burlington Transit buses are keeping their regular routes, but expect delays.

Once the work under the road is done, the lane reopens and crews move to the boulevards between Pearl and Old Lakeshore until around August 25. That's the outer window the city approved, with room built in for weather and anything unexpected.

Rogers is installing new underground fibre for a new downtown development. Existing customers shouldn't see any service interruptions.

The City's Skyway Community Centre and Park project team picked up a provincial honour recently. Parks and Recreation Ontario handed the centre its 2026 Facility Design Award of Excellence, recognizing projects that combine strong public consultation with creative design for public spaces.

Council acknowledged the team at its meeting last week. The award highlights the centre's innovation and design quality, placing it among the province's standout public facilities this year.

🍽 Butter Tart Market Brings Over 50 Vendors

The third-annual Beatles Brunch for Terry is happening Sunday at The Black Bull pub, kicking off a month of local fundraisers ahead of the Terry Fox Run in September.

Andrew Mactaggart and Chris Altmann, both members of Tim Hicks' touring band, will play live Beatles covers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Canadian singer-songwriter Suzie McNeil is singing the national anthem and taking part in the fundraiser, which hits close to home after cancer took her father's life last year.

There will be a fifty-fifty draw, signed vinyl prizes, and T-shirts for sale. Later this month, the Terry Fox team is taking over Headon Forest Plaza on Saturday, August 29 for an OrangeTheory Fitness fundraiser.

Burlington's U16 boys soccer team took home the Ontario Premier Development League championship last weekend at the Ontario Summer Games in Waterloo, scoring 11 goals across four matches and giving up only one.

The Bayhawks opened Thursday with a 3-1 win over Hamilton United, then crushed FC Durham 5-0 on Saturday. They beat Whitby 2-0 in their final group game before shutting out London TFC 1-0 in the final, played in pouring rain.

Thiago Martinez scored the lone goal in the championship match. Congratulations to the team for making Burlington proud.
