Burlington is putting on two weeks of free arts and culture events across the city, September 18 to October 4. It is the city's part in Culture Days, a national non-profit built around hands-on activities that get people behind the scenes with artists, historians and curators.

Five organizations are anchoring it. The Art Gallery of Burlington opens its studios for tours and artist talks, and Burlington Public Library has ten free programs, both running September 20 to October 3. Saturday, September 26 is the busiest day: BPAC opens its building for WANDER, a free afternoon of performances turning up in corners you would not normally see, and Ireland House Museum hosts its Heritage Fibre Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Running the whole two weeks is the Discover Burlington Culture Crawl, a free pass you use to build your own route through the city's arts spots. Check in as you go and the points can be redeemed for local swag and prizes.

BurlingtonGreen is marking National Forestry Week later this month with a lineup of tree-themed events, including workshops, a planting session, and a photo contest.

Kyle McLoughlin, the city’s Master Arborist, is leading an ’Ask an Arborist’ webinar on Wednesday, September 23, followed by a hands-on tree care and planting workshop at Mohawk Park starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 24.

The week wraps up with a community tree planting at Longmoor Park on Saturday, September 26, where residents can help with weeding, mulching, and planting. A photo contest is also running through October 30, with the winner receiving a $50 gift card to Connon Nurseries.

Classes resume across Ontario this week, and police are asking drivers to slow down and stay alert near schools.

The OPP is reminding motorists that when a school bus stops and its red overhead lights are flashing, traffic must stop by law until the lights stop and the stop arm is withdrawn. On roads without a median, vehicles in both directions must stop.

Students and parents are encouraged to use designated crosswalks, make eye contact with drivers, and follow crossing guard instructions. Police say the busiest traffic windows are morning drop-off and afternoon pickup times.

Canada's Largest Ribfest finished its 30th year on Monday after four days at Spencer Smith Park. Sixteen rib teams were cooking up their signature ribs and sauces, including favourites like Big Texas, who displayed their dozens of awards for everyone to see.

The long weekend event featured more than just ribs, with other food vendors, over 20 live performers, rides, a kids zone, and more. Another successful Ribfest in the books.
