Every candidate running for mayor and council has been invited to Central Arena on Saturday, September 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., where residents can walk in and talk to them face to face. Candidates will be seated at tables, so you can go straight to whoever is running in your ward.

The open house is being put on by three local groups: Engaged Citizens of Burlington (ECoB), the Burlington Gazette and Focus Burlington. It is a drop-in, not a debate.

The location was picked on purpose. The City's Food for Feedback event runs the same day at Central Park, noon to 3 p.m., a three-minute walk from the arena, with four food trucks and twenty booths covering transit, stormwater, the 2027 budget and the Official Plan. Organizers say there will be signage between the two.

Burlington has five candidates for mayor and 30 running across the six wards, and several wards are guaranteed a new councillor.

Theatre Burlington is opening its 2026-27 season with Icemen, a Canadian thriller that asks who the real criminals are when the wealthy exploit the working class. The Vern Thiessen play runs September 25-26, October 2-3, and October 9-10 at the Drama Centre behind Central Library.

The cast includes James Vézina (recently in Tuesdays with Morrie at The Player's Guild), Brian Melanson (last on the Theatre Burlington stage in 2009's Copenhagen), and Gregory Flis (previously in Thiessen's Einstein's Gift at Dundas Little Theatre).

Evening shows start at 7:30 pm, with matinees at 2 pm on September 26, October 3, and October 10. Tickets are $33 ($28 for seniors). This is the third straight season featuring all-Canadian productions.

If you're wondering where you can ride an e-scooter in Burlington, there's one answer: Centennial Trail. That's it. Sidewalks, roads, paths, and Spencer Smith Park are all off-limits under local rules, Halton police say.

Riders under 16 can't use them anywhere. Those 16 or 17 must wear helmets. Police are fielding a growing number of calls about the devices, which they warn can hit significant speeds and cause serious injuries in a collision.

Enforcement is tricky. Bylaw officers can't compel riders to show ID, making it hard to confirm age or issue fines. The city is handing out flyers at upcoming community events to get the word out, but enforcement remains complaint-driven and stretched thin.

A video of a guy biking from Stoney Creek to Burlington just to eat a burger has been making the rounds since it was posted late last month, and it is closing in on 300,000 views and 5,000 likes. He took the Burlington Beach boardwalk to get to Dunky's Beach Shack, and the review he came back with was about as good as it gets.

The clip is from Urbanicity Hamilton, an account that covers hidden gems around the region. He called the Dunky Burger one of his favourite smash burgers ever, and said the smash tacos, a smashed patty on a tortilla with the same toppings and sauces as the burgers, were excellent. He towed his two kids behind him the whole way, so the three of them finished with ice cream on the boardwalk.

Dunky's is a family run shack at 1086 Lakeshore Road, tucked so far onto the boardwalk that you can't see it from the street. The menu is smash burgers, fries, poutine, smash tacos and ice cream, made to order, and it sits at 4.9 stars on Google.
