It was recently brought to our attention that some of the events on our calendar weren't real. They were fake markets taking booth fees from vendors for events that were never going to happen, and a few of them made it into this newsletter too.

Unfortunately, we had no idea that this scam existed until recently, so we had not been identifying and removing these events. If you turned up to one, or paid a fee to one of the organizers, we're very sorry.

Since finding out about this, all of these events have been removed, and we will be closely monitoring every event that is posted to our calendar going forward to ensure this does not happen again.

We have also added a flag button at the top right of any event as a second safety measure. If you ever see an event that looks suspicious you can select that flag button for the event to be temporarily removed until its reviewed by us.

The province and City of Burlington are now discussing Transit-Oriented Communities at Burlington and Appleby GO stations, on top of the six-tower proposal already in the works at Aldershot GO.

Infrastructure Ontario submitted plans in June for about 2,715 residential units in six buildings between 30 and 48 storeys at 119 Masonry Court, west of Aldershot GO's south parking lot. The agency is still reviewing public and city feedback from July engagement meetings.

City staff and councillors met with provincial officials at a municipal conference in Ottawa in mid-August. No development applications have been filed yet for the Burlington or Appleby GO projects.

Parkinson Canada is hosting a two-kilometre walk downtown on Sunday, September 13 to raise funds and awareness for those living with Parkinson's disease. Registration opens at 10 a.m., with the walk starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Burlington Lions Club on Pearl Street.

Burlington is one of more than 30 communities across Canada taking part this fall. The local goal is $39,450, and the community has raised around $17,000 so far.

The event is free for all ages, but organizers are asking participants to register online ahead of time.

A Burlington choir just won two gold medals at the 2026 World Choir Games in Sweden. Myriad Ensemble took first place in two categories at the international event last month, in the group's first-ever competition.

Founder Elisa Naccarato started the choir in her parents' living room in 2017 with just five singers. Sixty members made the trip to Helsingborg, Sweden, with some stepping on a plane for the first time to get there.

Myriad Ensemble kicks off their new season on September 10 and will perform at Burlington Performing Arts Centre this winter as part of the venue's 15th anniversary season. The choir is accepting new members, with auditions on September 8th and 9th

The sixth annual Art Walk took over Lion's Park on Sunday, with more than 50 local artists, makers and community partners set up across the park. The day featured rain showers but it did not stop the event from being a success.

The free event is put on by the Elizabeth Gardens Creative Collective. Visitors could try different art-making techniques at the tables, add a piece to a collaborative community art installation, and follow a scavenger hunt through the park.

There were musical performances and demos from the artists through the day, and much of the work on display was for sale.
