Marianne Meed Ward Wins Third Consecutive Term as Burlington Mayor 🗳️

@marianne.meedward

Burlington voters have made their choice! Marianne Meed Ward has been re-elected mayor, securing a third consecutive term in Monday’s municipal election.

Meed Ward received approximately 25,025 votes, or 44.29% of the vote, finishing ahead of second-place candidate Lisa Kearns, who received 17,070 votes (30.21%). Rory Nisan placed third with 12,650 votes (22.39%). The result marks a milestone in Burlington’s municipal politics: Meed Ward is the first mayor since 1974 to win three consecutive elections.

Looking ahead, affordability, property taxes, traffic congestion, housing and responsible growth remain important issues for residents. Meed Ward has identified the municipal budget as an immediate priority, with discussions ahead about balancing community services and infrastructure needs with concerns over rising costs.

As Burlington begins this next chapter, residents will be looking to see how Mayor Meed Ward and council turn campaign promises into action.

Fall Cleanup Is Coming! Burlington’s Loose-Leaf Collection Starts November 9th 🍂

City of Burlington

Burlington’s streets are turning golden, and help is on the way for homeowners tackling piles of autumn leaves! The City’s annual loose-leaf collection program begins Monday, November 9th, giving residents three weeks to clear their yards before winter arrives.

Collection runs by neighbourhood zone, with one designated pickup week per zone. Check your dates using the City’s leaf collection schedule and tracking map.

Before the trucks arrive, rake leaves into loose piles at the curb no more than two days before your collection week. Keep piles free of branches and debris, and make sure they don’t block sidewalks, bike lanes, pathways, or storm drains to avoid obstructions or flooding hazards that may result in fines.

Weather can affect pickup, so keep an eye on city updates. After collection ends, remaining leaves can go into yard-waste bags for Halton Region pickup, or be mulched to help nourish your garden for spring!

Looking for Halloween Fun in Burlington? Head to Joseph Brant Museum! 🎃

Looking for one more Halloween adventure before the big night? Joseph Brant Museum is inviting Burlington families to enjoy a little spooky fun with Tricks for Treats on Saturday, October 31st!

From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, kids can try their luck at tricky games, hunt for clues throughout the museum, and get creative at a Halloween craft station. There’s even a Spooky Snapshot Station, hosted by Henry’s Camera, where families can receive a digital photo by email and a voucher for a free instant 8×10 print.

The event is a fun way to mix Halloween excitement with a chance to explore the museum’s exhibits.

Regular admission applies: $30 per family (two adults and up to four children), $10 per adult, $8 for seniors or students, and $6 per child. Family membership holders get in free. Registration is recommended, with walk-ins welcome if space permits.

A Burlington Charity Marks 20 Years of Supporting Pregnant Women and Girls 💛

For 20 years, Shifra Homes has provided safe housing and support for pregnant women and young mothers facing difficult circumstances. Now, the Burlington-based organization is expanding its reach to help even more families build a stable future.

Shifra currently operates three homes, offering residents a supportive environment, practical guidance, and care during pregnancy and early motherhood. Its fourth home will create space for six more mothers and their babies, with the new property expected to open in January 2027.

Community support can help make this next chapter possible. Have gently used baby or children’s items, clothing, furniture, or household essentials you no longer need? Shifra welcomes donations to help furnish its homes and support the families who live there.

Pet Spotlight: Charles 🐾

Burlington Humane Society

When 7-year-old Charles arrived at the Burlington Humane Society, he was terrified and unsure of the world around him. But with time, gentle care, and patience, he has begun to come out of his shell and discover that people can be kind.

Charles has made wonderful progress, but he still needs someone special to help him build his confidence. He’s looking for a quiet, loving home with a patient person who understands that trust takes time and will let him blossom at his own pace.

Could you be the person who shows Charles that he no longer needs to be afraid? If you have room in your heart for a shy soul who needs a little extra patience, Charles is waiting at the Burlington Humane Society.
