Heat Warning Through Friday 🌡️

Is this Mexico or Burlington, Ontario? If you have stepped outside in the last 24 hours, you might have noticed that it’s really, really hot outside.
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Burlington and surrounding areas, with temperatures expected to reach 34 to 37 degrees through Friday and possibly into the weekend.
Today and tomorrow are supposed to be the hottest days, with overnight lows of 21 to 25 degrees offering little relief. The hot and humid air could also push the Air Quality Health Index into the high-risk category.
Health officials are urging residents to drink water frequently, stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible, and check on older adults and those living alone. Signs of heat exhaustion include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue.
Public spaces like libraries, community centres, and shaded parks are available for anyone needing relief. Stay cool and keep out of the heat!
Museum Rooftop Fireworks Party 🎆
Joseph Brant Museum is offering what might be the best view in town for tonight’s Canada Day fireworks and drone show. The museum's rooftop terrace will host an adults-only viewing party tonight, with live music from Josh Edwards, lawn games, drinks, and a menu of Canadian favourites including pulled pork and macaroni salad.
The event runs 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., with the fireworks and drone show starting around 9:40 p.m. Tickets are $50 and available online, and attendees encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
WC Watch Parties at Drury lane 🏟️
Drury Lane Theatre is hosting free watch parties for every remaining World Cup game. The theatre opens one hour before the first match each day and stays open until the final whistle, even for late-night kickoffs like Thursday's Switzerland-Algeria game at 11 p.m.
The bar will be open for snacks and drinks. The theatre held its first party earlier this week for Canada's 1-0 win over South Africa. This could be your next spot to cheer on Canada as they face Morocco this Saturday!

Pet Spotlight: Meet Spirit! 🐱
Spirit is a sweet 16-year-old senior cat with a heart full of love. She adores being brushed, enjoys relaxing on a warm lap, and is wonderful with children. Friendly and affectionate, Spirit loves chin scratches, head rubs, and spending time with her people.
She would do best as the only cat in the home, where she can be the center of attention. Spirit currently receives daily eye drops and medication and needs a little extra help with grooming, but she handles it all with ease.
Spirit is currently in a foster home. Please indicate your interest on your adoption application to arrange a meet-and-greet.
Hockey Player Saved at Mainway 🏒
Danny Douthart, a 66 year old recreational local hockey player, collapsed on the ice at Mainway Arena on May 7 after suffering a heart attack mid-game. His teammates and a bystander, Lyndsie Cox, who grabbed the arena's defibrillator, kept him alive with CPR and shocks until paramedics arrived. Douthart had no pulse for 10 minutes.
Cox, a longtime cardio expert and former city lifeguard, happened to be waiting for her son after Bulldogs tryouts when a player ran into the lobby asking for help. She and fellow hockey mom Dina Romualdi alternated CPR and defibrillator shocks until EMS arrived, saving Douthart’s life.
Douthart is now making a quick recovery, walking 6km per day with a personal defibrillator in his chest. The quick thinking and life saving actions of Cox and Douthart’s teammates were awarded last Tuesday at City Hall, some well deserved recognition for these local heroes.
