Nostalgia Games Cafe Closes 🎲

Owners Sophia and George on an IG post announcing the closure
Nostalgia Games Cafe has served its last cup of coffee. The Burlington coffee shop and board game hangout closed for good last week after struggling with occupancy requirements that would have required adding bathrooms to let more customers in at once.
The owners Sophia and George spent the last month trying to find a way around the issue, running a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of raising $50,000 for renovations. In the end, they unfortunately had to close, issuing refunds to everyone who was kind enough to donate.
The cafe wrapped up with a going-away party on Saturday, the day after its final regular business day.
Japanese Builder Opens Burlington Hub 🏗
A Japanese construction company has set up its first Canadian operation in Burlington, bringing modular building technology to the local market. SEKISUI Canada Modular Solutions opened at 955 Maple Ave. last week, starting with seven employees and plans to grow as the business expands.
The company builds steel-frame modular buildings for housing, schools, and commercial projects. Up to 90 per cent of construction happens in the factory before modules are shipped to the site and assembled, which speeds up timelines and tightens quality control.
Burlington became the landing spot for this new venture after city reps met with the company during a business trip to Itabashi, Burlington's twin city in Japan.
Battle of Atlantic Service Next Thursday 🎖️
The Burl-Oak Naval Veterans are hosting a memorial service next week to honour the merchant sailors lost during the Battle of the Atlantic.
The service takes place at the Naval Ships Memorial Monument in Spencer Smith Park on Thursday, September 3, at 11 a.m. Those gathered will remember around 36,000 merchant seamen who died over the course of the six-year campaign, the longest continuous military engagement of the Second World War.
The battle ran from September 1939 to May 1945, as Allied forces worked to keep supply lines open across the Atlantic against German submarine attacks.

Latin Fest Packed Central Park 💃

From burlingtonlatinfestival Instagram
The local Latin community as well as anyone looking to enjoy some amazing food and music came out to Central Park over the weekend for the annual Burlington Latin Fest.
The event featured live shows, dance, classes, various food vendors and art displays, and more. The large turnout and positive reactions point to a successful festival that will likely be back for many years to come.
Pet Spotlight: Meet Brock! 🐶

Brock is a sweet, loving two-year-old dog looking for a family to call his own. His foster mom describes him as the perfect companion for a quiet, laid-back home. He loves spending time with his people and gives 150% of himself every day.
Brock recently had one eye removed due to a severe infection. He has healed beautifully and continues to take life in stride with a positive attitude and wagging tail.
This medium-sized boy has so much love to give and is ready to share it with a forever family. Could Brock be the companion you've been searching for?
