Burlington Volunteers Help Clean Up Thousands of Cigarette Butts 🌿

A group of Burlington residents came together at Burlington Beach this week to help give the shoreline a cleaner start to fall.

On Sept. 29th, 18 volunteers took part in a BurlingtonGreen cigarette butt cleanup at the beach, collecting 6,420 discarded cigarette butts from the area. The cleanup was part of the UNSMOKE Butt Blitz, a Canada-wide effort organized by A Greener Future to remove cigarette litter from shorelines. The collected butts will be sent to TerraCycle Canada for recycling, keeping the waste out of Lake Ontario.

The cleanup shows how residents can make a visible difference when they come together!

Students Turn Music Into Support for Local Animals 🐾

Burlington Humane Society Review

What started with a family adopting a kitten from the Burlington Humane Society has grown into a heartwarming tradition of giving back.

This summer, two local siblings and their friends formed a band of 12-year-olds called 12 Degrees North. The young musicians held a charity concert at the end of the summer and donated the proceeds to the Burlington Humane Society.

The family’s connection with the organization began years earlier when they adopted a kitten. A year later, the now-grown cat returned to the Humane Society as part of its Pet Therapy program, visiting seniors in retirement and long-term care homes.

The fundraiser is a great example of Burlington’s young residents finding creative ways to support their community and local animals.
