Not sure where to start? Our Backyard Patio Design Guide covers how to plan your layout, choose the right materials, add lighting, and bring the whole outdoor space together.
At Van Beek’s, you’ll find a wide selection of concrete pavers, patio slabs, natural stone, porcelain, wall products, steps, aggregates and outdoor lighting to help bring your project to life.

Seafood Boil Spot Opens Friday 🦀

Image from Captain’s Crab Facebook
A new seafood boil restaurant is opening on Appleby Line this week. Captain's Crab Seafood Boil House is bringing what it calls "bold seafood boils" and "big flavour" to 100-511 Appleby Line, with a soft opening planned for Friday, August 21.
There's one rule for this restaurant, and it's get messy. The spot serves crab, shrimp stacks, and signature sauces meant to be eaten with your hands, no forks allowed. Pull, crack, dip, and enjoy.
Art Walk Returns Downtown 🖼️

From e.g.creativecollective Instagram
The sixth annual Elizabeth Gardens Creative Collective Art Walk is back next Sunday August 30th at Lion's Park downtown, bringing more than 50 artists, entertainers, and makers, to the free all-day event.
The show runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 471 Pearl St. and includes live music, hands-on demos, a scavenger hunt, and a collaborative art installation where visitors can leave their own mark on a community piece.
The Elizabeth Gardens Creative Collective started in 2020 as a way for local artists to stay connected during lockdown. The group held its first Art Walk in 2021 and has since grown into one of Burlington's most anticipated grassroots art events.
EV Charging Goes Paid 🔋
If you drive an electric vehicle in Burlington, free charging at city-owned lots is about to end. Starting October 1, the city is introducing hourly fees at all public charging stations.
Level 2 chargers will cost $2 per hour for the first four hours, then jump to $4 per hour after that. Overnight charging between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. runs $0.50 per hour. Community centre chargers follow the same structure but cost $1.50 per hour for the first four hours instead of $2.
Level 3 fast chargers will cost a flat $10 per hour at all times. Right now, all city charging is free.

Pet Spotlight, Meet Silver! 🐈

Silver is a sweet and friendly 8-year-old boy who is as beautiful as he is lovable. This gentle fellow enjoys spending time with people and has plenty of love to give.
When Silver arrived at Burlington Humane, he had elevated blood sugar. Thankfully, he responded wonderfully to a Fancy Feast wet-food-only diet and is now in diabetic remission.
Silver will need to remain on his current diet, potentially for life, and have glucose blood work twice a year to monitor his health. This wonderful boy is ready for a special forever home. Come meet Silver today!
