Together With Cascade Cleaning!

Two weeks before the bell rings, the school routine basically starts deciding your calendar for you: earlier alarms, more driving, homework, less time. Things around the house start to slip.

This is usually the point where "I'll get to it before September" quietly turns into "I didn't get to it."

Book now and the house is handled before the first day.

Cascade works with your neighbours across Burlington. Flat-rate pricing. Online booking. No contracts.

New clients: Get $25 off your first recurring clean. Use code BD25. Offer ends Sept 30.

Let’s work together.

Shake Shack Coming to Burlington 🍽

The U.S. burger chain Shake Shack is opening three new Ontario locations this year and next, including a spot in Burlington at 4511 Dundas Street.

The Burlington and Oakville locations are both set to open by the end of this year. A third spot in London will follow in 2027 and will be Ontario's first Shake Shack with a drive-thru.

Shake Shack Canada launched in 2023 and now has nine Canadian locations, mostly in the Greater Toronto Area. The company plans to open at least 35 locations across Canada.

Quarry Expansion Gets Green Light 🏗️

The Ontario Land Tribunal approved Nelson Aggregate's plan to expand its north Burlington quarry on Mount Nemo, overriding opposition from the city and local environmental groups.

Burlington and Conserving Our Rural Ecosystems Burlington (CORE) both say they're disappointed in the Aug. 18 decision and are reviewing the 130-page ruling to figure out next steps.

The expansion will be phased over 30 years. The new South Quarry comes first, with extraction expected to start in spring 2027 and run about 10 years. After that, the West Quarry opens on what's currently Burlington Springs Golf & Country Club, which will keep operating for at least the next decade.

Latin Festival Hits Central Park 💃

Central Park is about to get a lot louder. The Burlington Latin Festival returns this weekend with two full days of live music, dancing, and food vendors spread across the park.

Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 9pm, 22 performers will take the stage alongside more than 70 vendors. The lineup includes dance lessons, showcases, and family activities throughout both days.

100 Seeds of Joy will also set up a booth offering free guided meditations. Admission is free.

Five Students Score Top Medals 🏆

Five Burlington high schoolers just earned one of the most prestigious academic awards in the country. The Halton District School Board handed out Governor General's Academic Medals to students who finished with the highest average in their high school’s graduating class.

The list includes Kallem Manning from M. M. Robinson, who finished with a perfect 100 per cent average, Evan Bailie from Nelson (98.47 per cent), Kaiden Slipper from Aldershot (97.6 per cent), Brayden Wong from Burlington Central (96.1 per cent), and Maya Jazayeri from Dr. Frank J. Hayden (90 per cent).

Only about 50,000 people have earned the medal since it was created in 1873. Sixteen Halton students were recognized this year, five of them from Burlington.

Congrats to these bright students for all of their hard work!

Youth Design Lab Shapes Volunteering 🙌

Community Development Halton is hosting a Youth Volunteer Design Lab next month where local teens and young adults can help shape future volunteer opportunities in the community.

The session runs Thursday, September 10 from 4pm to 6pm at the Burlington Lions Club on Pearl Street. Pizza is provided, and attendees earn volunteer hours for participating.

Organizers want to hear what motivates youth to volunteer, what barriers they face, and how community organizations can better support young leaders. The session is open to anyone aged 14 to 24.
